School Board - GENERAL INFORMATION

Why do we have a School Board?
All New Zealand Schools and state-integrated schools are required to have a School Board under the New Zealand Education Act.
Who is on the School Board?
The Te Kura o Ōpāwaho - Opawa School Board is made up of five parent representatives, one staff representative, the Deputy Principal, and the Principal.
What is the role of the School Board?
Essentially the Board governs the school whilst the Principal manages the day to day running of the school. The Board is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the school, overseeing the management of personnel, property and finance rather than administrative detail. Enhancing student achievement is its focus.
Where can I find a copy of the minutes?
Copies of the meeting minutes are displayed on the School Board notice board in the school office area, or in the Board minutes tab.
Can I attend a meeting?
Members of the school community are welcome to attend and observe at our monthly meetings however visitors are asked not to be present during the Public Excluded Session.
What should I do if I have a compliment or complaint?
Please refer to our complaints procedures under the Policies & Procedures section of our website.
* In the first instance complaints must be discussed with the teacher concerned. If there is no resolution the complaint must then be discussed with the appropriate Learning Team Leader. Following this step if there is still a concern please make an appointment to see the Deputy Principal and/or Principal.
