canine educator

Hi! My name is Bindi and I am a 4 year old female Maltese/Shih tzu cross and I am the new Canine Educator here at Ōpāwa. I am a non-allergenic, moult free breed who has been bought up around children. To be a Canine Educator I had to undergo lots of training and an assessment by a qualified dog trainer to see that I was suitable for this role. I also had to present my assessment results to the Board of Trustees. I will mainly be in Room 13 but you may see me around the school sometime. If you do see me could you please remember these things: 

• I am not a toy. I am to be treated with respect and care.
• I like to be approached calmly and be offered a hand to sniff, initially.
• I like pats, but not being picked up. 
• I am on a strict diet, so please don’t feed me. 
• As I am only small, I can feel overwhelmed if many people crowd around me, so please be mindful of that. 

I am very excited about becoming an important part of Ōpāwa School and look forward to meeting you all throughout the year.
