Positive culture for learning

At Te Kura o Ōpāwaho - Opawa School the Positive Culture for Learning (PC4L) initiative is designed to help our learning community improve children’s wellbeing, increase educational achievement and address problem behaviour.

By strengthening relationships and creating more positive school environments we remove barriers to engagement and improve students’ chances to achieve at school and beyond.

PC4L is a long-term, systemic approach involving ten initiatives. These include whole-school change initiatives, targeted group programmes and individual student support services.

Because we have been experiencing success implementing and sustaining PC4L school-wide, we are now moving into refining school-wide behaviour interventions across our school.

At Te Kura o Ōpāwaho - Opawa School  we teach all students to be safe, respectful, responsible learners in the classroom, playground and other settings. Through robust classroom management, our Te Ara Tika Values, and explicit lessons teaching and reinforcing our school values, we create predictable and positive learning environments within our school.

Some students do not respond in the same ways to our quality universal and academic behavioural instruction. Our goal is to provide support to these students to meet their needs and to enrich their learning.
